Economic Development & Community Leader Honored Print E-mail

Graham NicklessWangNET would like to congratulate Graham Nickless after he received a Public Service Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honors List for 2009.

Graham received the honor for his contribution to North East Victoria in providing leadership and innovation in the field of economic development.

He says he is most proud of establishing the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program within the region that now has 191 graduates after more than 10 years.

“Every year, that’s a group of 20 people who have given up their time and are enthused about the program,” he said.

“That’s a pretty formidable force of people in the region and I’m sure they are making their contribution to the region.”

Graham thanks his fellow leadership pioneers Nerada Kerr, Bernard Young and Rob Patrick - along with John Brown who is a stong advocate and chamopion for the concept - for their assistance in making AVCLP a living thriving entity.

"Having keen and dedicated people around you does keep your motivation up. Some projects take 10 years to germinate - such as the Wangaratta Technical Education Centre."

Graham has helped this region become a major commercial player with a sound and vibrant community to sustain it.
